Happy Wednesday! Today was a half day at school so I am home early.

I thought I would take this time to explain to my followers a little bit about the significance of Yom Kippur.

Tonight at sundown Jews from all over the world will be observing the most holiest of all Jewish holidays, Yom Kippur, which means “Day of Attonment”. It is a very solemn day, and most Jews spend it praying. Those of us who are healthy enough fast for 24 hours. We deprive ourselves of food and water for many reasons. Fasting allows us this time for self searching, repentance, discipline, and to remind us of those whose live their lives in deprivation. It is our hope that we are written into The Book of Life for another year. This is done by asking for forgiveness to those we have wronged and also through prayer.

I will be live streaming services this evening as well as tomorrow morning. Tomorrow evening my dad and I will gather at a family friends house and have our break fast meal. Typically break fast meals include breakfast type foods such as; bagels, cream cheese, egg casseroles, lox, kugels etc…

Last night Tropical Storm Nicolas 🌀 made landfall. I kept waking up in the wee hours of the morning to take a look outside. The wind was crazy at times and it was raining horizontally! I’m going to venture outside in a bit and just walk around my complex.

Every time it rains heavily water comes up from the floor in my bathroom and in the cabinets. It’s super annoying. It’s always on the same side and the same exact spot! Maintenance has come several times to attempt to fix the issue but it keeps happening. Oh well, such is life. I’m done mentioning it to the office.

Thankfully I do not have to go to work today. School is closed because of the storm. In fact, this is a super short week because, we are off today, tomorrow is noon dismissal, and Thursday there is no school because it’s Yom Kippur. Also, Friday is a late start day.

Monday September 13, 2021

Happy Monday! A number of school districts in the Houston area are either closed or closing early do to the tropical storm. No word from my school yet! My guess is that we will close early. Thankfully, I live very close to school so getting home shouldn’t be an issue. Once I get home, I will be hunkering down! Hope everyone in the path of this storm stays safe and dry.

Yesterday afternoon my friend came over and we moved my coffee table to the dumpster. I have so much more room now. I literally feel free! I noticed last night as I was taking a load of junk to the dumpster that someone took the coffee table!

I typically leave for work at 7:00. This morning, I am going to leave a little later just incase a last minute decision is made about school.

Sunday September 12, 2021

Yesterday afternoon I went to my friends house and hung out with her doggies for a bit. Being with her doggies was just what I needed. It was also just nice to get out of my house for a bit.

This morning my friend and I floated in the pool for a bit. The weather was perfect and it was so relaxing.

I am almost done with step 1 of my purging project. I now have two empty drawers in my chest of drawers and my clothes closet is slowly starting to look normal again. I have a friend that is coming down next week to come and take all the clothes/ shoes I no longer want or need. Why should I have clothes that are way too big for me or that I haven’t worn in several years? My closet is going to look a bit messy until she comes to get all the stuff, but, thankfully everything is in trash bags or tote bags so I don’t have to see it. I can’t wait to say good riddance to everything!

The beginning of this purging process was extremely emotional and hard. Lots of tears were shed. Thankfully I’m over the hump of feeling emotional. I already feel so much better having less stuff. I have had a coffee table for years. Right now in my life, I feel that the coffee table no longer serves a purpose. It is taking up space and I am done running into it. I am going to be getting rid of it as soon as possible. I’m going to post it on a Facebook page and if nobody claims it I will be taking it to the dumpster. I figure if I ever find myself needing a coffee table in the future I can always get another one.

Well, I am off to run a quick errand and then will continue my closet project. Come back tomorrow for another post.

Last night was rough! I don’t want to go into detail but let’s just say a lot of tears were shed and my anxiety was getting the best of me. I finally, (it took quite a while) was able to calm down, purge some more stuff (actually a lot of stuff, I have so many bags of stuff I am giving away/trashing). Purging is super emotional. I really hope I feel better once I am done purging. I have a ways to go!

I tried a new grab and go place yesterday afternoon! Let’s just say I am hooked! I love that they have so many vegetarian options. I got a bowl with saffron rice, lentils, grilled onions, feta cheese, tomatoes, cucumbers, potato cakes, and eggplant. It was so fresh and so delicious! This place received a five star review from me on Yelp. I will definitely be going back to that place.

I can’t believe it’s been 20 years since that unforgettable September day!

Where were you 20 years ago when the first plane hit the Twin Towers?

I was a junior in high school and I was working on writing a portion of the yearbook. An announcement came on the loudspeaker and the announcement was for all of us to report the gym immediately. It was there the news of what had happened in our country was delivered . I remember bursting out into tears! I called my parents and asked if my uncle was okay! My uncle was working as a doctor at one of the best hospitals in NYC at the time. September 11, 2001 is a day I will never forget!

TGIF! This week I began to purge things from my life/ apartment that no longer serve a purpose or that I no longer need. Decluttering is very cathartic. Last night I packed up a bag of cookbooks that I haven’t touched in over 2 years. It felt so good bringing them to school today for other people to take and enjoy. I’m definitely going to continue this decluttering project over the weekend and in the coming weeks.

I have started floating in the pool after work a few days a week. It’s so nice to float and just think about things as you are slowly drifting back and forth. One of my good friends has been coming out to float too and it’s been so relaxing! I just love the water! It soothes my soul and makes me feel refreshed.

Thursday September 9, 2021

My day began very early much earlier than I would have liked! Oh well, I made the most of it.

School was great! My students were so happy to be back after a very long holiday weekend. They walked in, did their morning routine, and went right to work.

During lunch my head of school and the director called me out into the hallway. There has been a lot going on at school. Too make a long story short, one of the veteran teachers resigned. I am now taking a new teacher under my wing and I will act as her mentor while she goes through her Montessori training. I will still be in my classroom with my co however, I will also be serving as a mentor for this other teacher. I am honored that they asked me to do this. They both think I will be the perfect fit for this teacher.

Wednesday September 8, 2021

This morning I joined my friend and her doggies at the park. The weather was perfect and the sights were both beautiful and calming. Also, just being with my friend and her doggies was a great way to start my day. I definitely see more trips to the park in my future. Especially, with all the days off I have this month.

I really have been trying to only focus on being in the present moment. Sometimes I am really good about it and sometimes I am not. I am a much happier and calmer person when I live in the present moment. I have always been a planner, however, today it was brought to my attention just how much of a planner I am. Sometimes, you are not aware that you are doing something until it’s mentioned. Since the Jewish New Year just began I have made my resolution and that resolution is to commit to living in the present moment more often. I know it will only be more beneficial to me and my life in the long run. I know it’s a process, and I am going to have to retrain my mind, but, I am ready. Here’s to a new beginning.

Tuesday September 7, 2021

I went to get gas this morning. Let’s just say the pump was as slow as molasses. I am an extremely patient person however, I almost flipped my lid. There were other people pumping gas and everyone seemed agitated. Oh well, I have a tank full of gas!

Yesterday was a good day. I floated in the pool with some friends. One of my friends asked me if I wanted to go to Sonic, I love Sonic, I will never turn down an invite to go there. Well, let’s just say Sonic was hopping yesterday. There were also some idiots in line. After waiting a while, we decided to leave. I promised her I would go grab us drinks from there later today. Sonic has the best ice IMHO.

Last night, I live streamed Erev Rosh Hashanah services. The sanctuary was pretty empty. It was so nice to just sit on my couch with a glass of wine and watch/participate in services.

Today, I am going to watch services for a bit, have lunch with a good friend, go to the chiropractor, and run an errand or two. Too bad the pool at my complex is closed today, it would be a great day to float in the pool.

Well, that’s it for now. Come back tomorrow for another post.

Monday September 6, 2021

I am laying in bed listening to an amazing thunderstorm. The lightning outside my window it’s pretty fascinating too. I have been up for several hours! Insomnia sucks! Thank goodness for TikTok, I just watch videos until I decide to get out of bed. They need to create an app that allows you to text other people that aren’t sleeping. I think it would be cool to talk to other people about why they aren’t sleeping.

Yesterday, my friend and I decided to check out a vegan festival. Let’s just say we had our fair share of laughs.

Today I am getting a much needed manicure/pedicure. I am really looking forward to the massage chair. Those chairs are amazing! I am also planning on spending some time in the kitchen making a corn bread casserole with mushrooms, beyond meat, and some cheese.

Tonight at sundown Rosh Hashanah begins. My plan is to livestream services and work on some crafts at the same time.
